Science, Invention and Social Studies Labs
Class meets Monday through Thursday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM
"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand."
- Chinese Proverb
Marley the Ferret says, "Let's explore and learn!" Scholars go beyond memorizing facts and use the God-given process of learning by asking questions, exploring, and experimenting. Lab activities will involve multiple senses to reinforce learning. The topics explored in labs will come from the scholars own questions about their world, their own observations, and the National Science Education Standards. Inquiry-based learning develops habits and skills that will encourage scholars to be lifelong learners.
To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. ~Thomas A. Edison
US inventor (1847 - 1931)
In this lab, scholars learn about engineering, physics, math, science, writing, and persistence by being inventors. The scholars write in their inventor's journals to brainstorm ideas and document their work. They create, build, test, modify, and retest their projects...sometimes they even have to start over! Finally, their inspiration and perspiration are rewarded with a trip to A.C.E. Student Convention to show off their marvelous creations.
